The 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 12 NFBC FAAB Run is a quiet one which is the polar opposite of last week in fifteen team leagues. We have a couple of useful pitchers and a barren wasteland of hitting. With today being Father's Day, we will also see the same drop-off in bidding we saw on Mother's Day. Many of your league mates will be busy with family and not remember or put in the work to place their bids, offering you some potential discounts. Even if you don't have a need, you should be placing some bids today just to keep your opponents honest.
Last week I gave you Seranthony Dominguez as a speculative pickup in this space, and those who spent just a few bucks on him were rewarded with his first save last night. Corey Knebel has been removed from the role, and Dominguez and Brad Hand look to share it moving forward, but I would expect Dominguez to dominate that partnership.
Aaron Civale, SP, Cleveland Guardians (20%)
Last year Aaron Civale was one of the most efficient pitchers in the league. He was on his way to a 20-win season, leading the league with 12 when a sprained finger put him on the shelf for three months.
His first 31 innings this year were a train wreck, which was thankfully derailed by a glute strain in May. The 27-year-old has thrown six-plus effective innings over two rehab starts, collecting ten strikeouts while walking only two.
While no announcement has been made, it appears as if Civale should be activated early in the week, possibly Tuesday, and will slot in for a two-start week either this week or next. The demotion of Konnor Pilkington on Thursday, the day after Civale's most recent rehab start, implies the big squad is ready for him.
Civale is a junk ball, pitch-to-contact innings eater, whose 20.7% career strikeout rate leads quite a bit to be desired in rotisserie baseball. But with the finger and butt injuries behind him and offense surging across the league in the early summer, Civale should round out the bottom of your rotation nicely.
Anthony DeSclafani, SP, San Francisco Giants (63%)
Similar to Civale, Anthony DeSclafani could potentially return from an ankle injury and pitch as soon as Tuesday. He also is a sub-nine k/9 guy who eats innings and wins games. He won't damage your ratios and pitches on a good team in a pitcher-friendly ballpark. Lots to like here.
Keegan Thompson, SP, Chicago Cubs (68%)
Former third-round pick Keegan Thompson's game logs make me need some Pepto Bismol, but the final stat line comes together nicely. A 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP would look nice on many of my 15 team rosters right now.
On Friday night he tamed the scorching Atlanta Braves for six innings, scattering two walks and two hits around nine strikeouts, earning a win in a 1-0 game.
His next outing lines up against the lowly Pirates, so we have an opportunity to possibly catch a great streamer with some momentum.
Kendall Graveman, RP, Chicago White Sox (48%)
With Liam Hendriks on the shelf with the dreaded forearm strain, it is Kendall Graveman that will fill in in the ninth inning for the Pale Hose.
Graveman throws gas to set up a sweeping slider that earns Whiffs at a 40.4% clip. While the length of Hendriks' absence is unknown, Graveman should be a top 15 option for saves until he returns. He is worth 15% of your remaining FAAB budget if you are desperate for saves and missed out on the bargain I gave you on Dominguez last week.
Ken Giles, RP, Seattle Mariners (45%)
The Mariners bullpen has been an enigma all year. Four different pitchers have earned saves, yet no one has been able to establish themselves as THE guy. Diego Castillo has the most recent save, which was ten days ago. Paul Sewald has been generally effective, while Andres Munoz has not, but easily has the best stuff of the group.
Ken Giles has been quite terrible out on his rehab assignment, so the Mariners don't seem to be in a rush to bring him into the mix. You can pick him up now for a buck or two and stash, speculating on his experience in the role helping him rise to the top of the bullpen. Hopefully, he doesn't want to make you punch yourself in the face.
Riley Greene, OF, Detroit Tigers (88%)
The window to pick up the best prospect in baseball has closed. He was called up on Saturday and reached base four times and scored two runs in his Major League debut. I've mentioned stashing him for several weeks. If you didn't, and are in the 12% minority of leagues that he is available, get out your checkbook.
Jarren Duran, OF, Boston Red Sox (63%)
Jarren Duran has had several cups of coffee up in the bigs and hasn't been able to live up to the top prospect moniker. In 132 career minor league games, Duran has 46 stolen bases and a .303 average. In 40 games in the show, he has swiped only two bags and compiled a .226 average.
He has now started four consecutive games for the Red Sox. Opportunity may be there for him to grab an everyday job, but the likelihood of him continuing to underwhelm should limit your bids to just a few dollars.
Orlando Arcia, OF, Atlanta Braves (unowned)
Ozzie Albies is going to be out for an extended amount of time. It looks as if Orlando Arcia will bridge the gap. As of now, he is only eligible at outfield in the NFBC. He figures to add second base to that by late next week.
Arcia is on fire, he is 8 for 17 with two home runs in five games since replacing Albies. He has shown pop in the past, with 19 home runs across two levels last year. He should be a serviceable middle infielder the rest of the way, but only a bench option as an outfielder.
Yandy Diaz, 1B/3B, Tampa Bay Rays (88%)
Yandy Diaz is the best right-handed hitter that I have ever seen that is basically worthless for fantasy. His value this week is simply that he plays and has dual eligibility in the infield.
